چکیده
The dynamics of vortices in a 2D Heisenberg antiferromagnet with an easy-plane anisotropy is studied numerically within the discrete spin model as well as analytically within a continuum approximation based on a suitable extension of the relativistic nonlinear σ model. We find that two like vortices scatter at 90 • during a head-on collision, whereas a vortex-antivortex pair is annihilated into spinwave radiation emitted mainly at 90 •. When a uniform bias field is applied, vortex dynamics is affected rather profoundly and acquires the characteristic features of the Hall effect of electrodynamics or the Magnus effect of fluid dynamics. In particular, a single vortex is always spontaneously pinned, two like vortices form a rotating bound state, and a vortex-antivortex pair undergoes Kelvin motion. Finally, in the presence of a bias field, vortices are shown to be the prominent topological excitations even for an isotropic antiferromagnet.

The vortex-vortex and vortex-antivortex correlation functions are determined for the two-dimensional O(2) model undergoing phase ordering. We find reasonably good agreement with simulation results for the vortex-vortex correlation function where there is a short-scaled distance depletion zone due to the repulsion of like-signed vortices. The vortex-antivortex correlation function agrees well wi...

A new four-dimensional N = 1 superfield model is suggested. The model is induced by supertrace anomaly of matter superfields in curved superspace and leads to effective theory of supergravity chiral compensator. A renormal-ization structure of this model is studied, one-loop counterterms are calculated and renormalization group equations are investigated. It is shown that the theory under consi...

Reaction equations of homogeneously mixed pollutants in the atmosphere can lead to non-stationary periodic solutions. It is important to know in which respect these solutions are modified under the influence of the atmospheric currents. We investigate this question in a very simple model: The reaction equations are modeled by the equations of the brusselator and the currents are represented by ...

A chaos control algorithm is developed to actively stabilize unstable periodic orbits of higher-dimensional systems. The method assumes knowledge of the model equations and a small number of experimentally accessible parameters. General conditions for controllability are discussed. The algorithm is applied to the Hamiltonian problem of point vortices inside a circular cylinder with applications...
متن کاملFree vortex and vortex-pair lifetimes in classical two-dimensional easy-plane magnets
We report numerical simulation results for free-vortex lifetimes in the critical region of classical two-dimensional easy-plane ferroand antiferromagnets having three-component order parameters. The fluctuations in the vortex number density in a spin dynamics simulation were used to estimate the lifetimes. The observed lifetimes are of the same order of magnitude but smaller than the characteri...
